Indigenous American language specialists, teachers, and community activists share information on how the languages can be best kept alive. They consider opportunities and obstacles faced by revitalization efforts, programs and models for promoting the languages, the role of writing, and how technology is being used. The 11 essays were selected from presentations at a May 1998 conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
